I first came across the rainbow serpent when I was travelling in Australia back in 1999-2000 and came across some retailers of the art and craft products. I instantly fell in love with the designs and colors of the artwork. No need to say I bought this and that...
Now I also know some of the aboriginal myths about the rainbow serpent. The one story that appeals to me the most is when the rainbow serpent is looking for its people. It crawls upon some people but it cannot understand their language so it crawls on to find its own people. This is how I feel today, that I am looking for my own people and on the way I "crawl" upon a lot of people who's language I don't understand. In my opinion these languages are, amongst others: intolerance, greed, fanatism, egoism, racism etc.
What was said in Wikipedia about the rainbow serpent is also something I value: it is a protector of its people and a punisher of law breakers. It is closely linked to land, water, life, social relationships and fertility (people as well as the land).
